Julie has been a dedicated student of yoga for over 10 years. She is a Certified Anusara Yoga® teacher and studies regularly with Anusara founder John Friend and did her first training with Amy Ippoliti in 2002. Her classes are deeply layered and dynamic, yet progressive in sequencing as she presents clear instruction of Anusara's Universal Principles of Alignment and the therapeutic aspects of the practice. Julie teaches students of all levels, and creates a refreshing and fun environment in which each student is encouraged to connect to the greatness and potential of their own hearts.
Supporting her knowledge of asana and the principles, Julie has studied extensively the Tantric traditions of South India called Shri Vidya with esteemed scholar Douglas R. Brooks. Shri Vidya offers profoundly empowering teachings that Julie weaves into her classes making them enriching to the heart, body and soul. Julie's classes will challenge even the most advanced practitioner, and she offers practical insights from her years of study and contemplation.
Julie teaches from her experiences both on and off the mat and views yoga as a guide to life, and life-long practice. She is committed to serve students with the same awareness, generosity, and love she has been offered from a kula (community) of great teachers. She gratefully acknowledges the love and support received from John, Amy, and Douglas, as well as Sianna Sherman and Paul Muller-Ortega. Their words and actions continue to brighten her path of service.
Julie teaches publicly in Manhattan and Brooklyn, is an adjunct professor at NYU teaching yoga for Tisch, and is available for individual or group instruction. She specializes in assisting students with therapeutic concerns, and awakening their ability to rise to their greatest potential.
Julie also leads local and international yoga retreats throughout the year and has found them to be a wonderful opportunity for students to affirm and deepen their practice, make new life-long friends, and optimistically refresh their goals.
