Julie has been a dedicated student of yoga for 15 years, and is a native New Yorker. She is a Certified Anusara Yoga® teacher and studies regularly with Anusara founder John Friend and did her first training with Amy Ippoliti in 2002. One of the most sought after Anusara teachers in New York for her dynamic teaching style, Julie teaches classes with clear instruction of Anusara's Universal Principles of Alignment and the therapeutic aspects of the practice. Julie teaches students of all levels, and creates a refreshing and fun environment in which each student is encouraged to connect to the greatness of their own hearts, bodies, and minds, and experience lasting growth and transformation.
Supporting her knowledge of asana and the principles, Julie has spent the last 8 years immersed in the Tantric traditions of South India called Shri Vidya with scholar Douglas R. Brooks. Shri Vidya offers profoundly empowering teachings that Julie weaves into her classes for a modern take on being an urban yogi. Julie's classes will challenge even the most advanced practitioner, and she offers practical insights from her years of study and contemplation.
Teaching publicly in Manhattan and Brooklyn, Julie's experience includes serving as an adjunct professor at NYU teaching yoga for Tisch, leading local and international yoga retreats throughout the year, and supporting the growth of the kula in the tri-state area on the board of creators of Trikula News; a website and touchstone for all Anusara Yoga events, teachers and studios in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut. Proud to be a 2009-10 lululemon Ambassador, you can also find Julie teaching or hanging out at all of lululemon's stores.
Julie teaches from her experiences both on and off the mat and views yoga as a guide to life, and life-long practice. She is committed to serve students with the same awareness, generosity, and love she has been offered from a community of great teachers. She gratefully acknowledges the love and support received from John, Amy, and Douglas, as well as Sianna Sherman and Paul Muller-Ortega. Their words and actions continue to brighten her path of service.

Testimonials:
"Julie is one of the most incredible yoga teachers I have had the good fortune to study with - there are so many wonderful and varied components to her teaching style that I value.
She is thoughtful and engaging, and it is clear that she dedicates so much time to the preparation of her classes, and she interweaves the teachings and stories so beautifully with the asana practice.
Julie is playful and intense; lighthearted and demanding. She sees the potential and possibility in all her students, and she will spend the time to ensure that everyone gets both individual and collective support and attention. Her knowledge of Anusara, both the asana and the philosophy, is profound, and she is so generous in sharing what she knows. Most of all, she is dedicated to her students, and her level of commitment, both to her students' evolutionary growth as well as to their overall health and well-being, is palpable.
Julie is loved very much by the kula she has created, and the Anusara community is blessed for her presence in and commitment to it."

"The first time i took one of Julie's classes, i knew Anusara was for me. She opened the doors to another world of yoga i hadn't experienced. Julie creates a very friendly environment in her classes so everyone feels comfortable, and her expansive knowledge of the body, which she incorporates into her classes, is an amazing link to the Principles of Alignment. She frequently reminds us throughout class of our intention, which allows focus & connectedness between the body & mind. i have found Julie's focus keeps me present throughout class & thereafter. I now practice with an integrity which i hadn't tapped into, prior to practicing with Julie."

"Julie has a clear and deliberate style and is detail-oriented. She approaches her classes with a deep seriousness and commitment, but she also brings a sense of fun. In her own practice, her ardor and fearlessness are evident, but she is open-hearted, generous, clear and calm with her students."

"Julie's Anusara instruction starts with an infectious love of the practice that shines out to her students. Every one of Julie's classes is a trip that's light in spirit yet challenges students to strive, to grow and to intensify their own relationships with their innermost selves and their practices. When I begin one of Julie's classes, I know that, thanks to her expertise, humor and attention to detail, my time on the mat will be enlightening, rigorous and seriously fun."
